Wine Appreciation

We meet on the second Monday of each month from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm at the Hayloft, Nottingham Road, NG16 2GB.

The Wine Appreciation Group has been meeting for over 10 years.   We are a keen, enthusiastic and sociable  group who enjoy researching and presenting wines to the group, learning about  wines from around the world and about different grape varieties. We usually taste from 5 or 6 bottles in a session and currently the session cost is £6.00.  The emphasis is about learning and having fun!

Last year we had a lovely summer barbecue, a Christmas tasting of special wines, and a Christmas lunch where we were well looked after by the staff at The Hayloft. This year we are planning  to visit a  local vineyard and to have more outside tastings.

I have been co-ordinator/organiser for the past year.  The group is currently full with a waiting list. If you would like to join the waiting list, or if you would like further information, please email me at chris.oxley-baker@hotmail.co.uk.

2022

Once a year we go to a wine tasting but this year Honest Wines of Castle Donington came to us. They presented 5 white wines and 5 red wines and the quality was excellent although some were slightly different to what the group was used to which was very interesting.

Each wine was presented as a question and answer and the evening was enjoyed by all, in fact, it was the best tasting ever. Carl and his wife from Honest Wines were very friendly and knowledgeable.

February meeting 2020 – the group visited Weaver’s Wine Merchants for a tasting session. (see gallery for photo)
