Knit Aid

The Knit Aid group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 10.00 am – 12.00 pm at The People’s Initiative, Scargill Walk.  The contact for the group is Sandra Talmey on 01773 785949, email

Members are encouraged to choose from a selection of charity knitting/crocheting projects with a view to producing garments to support local, national and international charities; and also to learn something about the background to the charities and their work.  Since the start of knit aid in April 2015 our knitters have been busy knitting for various causes.

To date we have sent :
– 75 fish and chip vest and hat sets to Africa, along with 3 blankets, 2 toddler jumpers, 3 baby cardigans, 13 hats and 9 teddy bears;

– 180 squares to be made into blankets or dressing gowns and 8 teddy bears to Knit for Peace who distribute to wherever they are needed most in the world;
– 26 premature baby hats to Nottingham City Hospital;
– Christmas tree decorations and a nativity scene, which have been sold in aid of Marie Curie.  Funds raised go to help provide Marie Curie nurses for local terminally ill patients.

Every stitch knitted with a lot of chat and laughter so come and join us for a fun morning. Donations of wool always needed and a big thank you to those of you who have donated already.

Support in learning new stitches, following patterns etc. is available.  Members may also work on their own projects.
